Which is the right age to enrol my child into a pre-school?

Are you a parent of a 2-year-old or a toddler and unsure of the ideal age to enroll your little child in preschool? Your concern is well-founded. The majority of parents are unsure of what age is appropriate to enroll their child in preschool. Parents are concerned whether their child is eligible for preschool or not; which class their child is eligible for and so forth. As per government as well as early childhood development guidelines and criteria, a child should have completed 2 years by 31st May of that particular year for enrollment in that academic year, for instance; if 2 years are completed by 31st May 2022, the child is eligible for enrollment in Tiny Tots in the academic year 2022-23. Similarly, for Nursery, Jr KG and Sr KG, the child should have completed 3, 4 and 5 years respectively by 31st May 2022 for enrollment in the academic year 2022-23. While data suggests that early childhood education programmes can begin at age 2, we must also acknowledge that each kid is different and may or may not be prepared for preschool at that age. The social, emotional, and behavioral skills of your kid are key factors in determining if they are ready for preschool.

You can use the following checklist to determine whether your child is prepared for preschool.

Your kid is at ease being apart from you for a while

If your child starts crying or throwing tantrums whenever you leave the room, they might still require some alone time.

Your child is able to communicate when they need to use the restroom and is potty trained

While children may accidentally soil their clothes sometimes, they should be adequately trained to communicate the need to use the restroom.

Your kid is able to express needs

Your child is going to be without you for the first time. Therefore, it’s critical that they develop fundamental communication in order to convey how they are feeling or what they want.

Your child pays attention to & listens to instructions

While paying attention is a skill that even adults find difficult to master, what children need is the basic ability to listen to and understand directions given to them in order to engage in any kind of activity.

They ought to be able to communicate in a way that teachers can comprehend them

Your child doesn’t need to have fluent speech yet. It matters whether they possess the fundamental abilities needed to make others understand what they are saying.
